Thanksgiving 2008

Submitted by Barbara Blackburn on November 27, 2008 – 2:35 pmNo Comment

The bird is in the oven, the TV is tuned to the football game so now is my chance to say a quick “thank you” to all our clients and friends. Thank you for the privilege of working for you, thank you to all for enriching our lives with your laughter, companionship, and friendship. Following are two poems that I found online through google.com at John Mark Ministries. Enjoy.

A Thanksgiving Poem, by CJ Beaman
IT was the night of Thanksgiving, but I just couldn’t sleep
I tried counting backwards, I tried counting sheep.
The leftovers beckoned– the dark meat and white,
but I fought the temptation with all of my might.
Tossing and turning with anticipation,
the thought of a snack became infatuation.
So, I raced to the kitchen, flung open the door
and gazed at the fridge, full of goodies galore.
I gobbled up turkey and buttered potatoes,
pickles and carrots, beans and tomatoes.
I felt myself swelling so plump and so round,
till all of a sudden, I rose off the ground.
I crashed through the ceiling, floating into the sky
With a mouthful of pudding and a handful of pie
But, I managed to yell as I soared past the trees…….
happy eating to all—pass the cranberries, please!
May your stuffing be tasty, may your turkey be plump,
May your potatoes On gravy have nary a lump.
May your yams be delicious may your pies take the prize,
May your thanksgiving dinner stay off of your thighs.

I AM THANKFUL… For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes– Because that means he is at home not on the streets.
For the taxes that I pay– Because it means I am employed.
For the mess to clean after a party– Because it means that I have been surrounded by friends.
For the clothes that fit a little too snug– Because it means I have enough to eat.
For my shadow that watches me work– Because it means I am out in the sunshine.
For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing– Because it means I have a home.
For all the complaining I hear about the government– Because it means we have freedom of speech.
For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot– Because it means I am capable of walking and that I have been blessed with transportation.
For my huge heating bill– Because it means I am warm.
For the lady behind me in church who sings off key– Because it means I can hear.
For the pile of laundry and ironing– Because it means I have clothes to wear.
For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day– Because it means I have been capable of working hard.
For the alarm that goes of in the early morning hours– Because it means I am alive.
And finally, for too much email– Because it means I have friends who are thinking of me!
